Academic affiliation

Policy change has became part of social work training as the result of global developments of the last several decades.

At the Bob Shapell School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University, policy change is a major backbone in both teaching and research - from the Practical Clinic for Policy Change, open to undergraduate students, to the special Masters degree Program in Human Rights and Policy Advancement, in every aspect of the social work profession, a major stress in placed on identifying individual problems as social problems and thinking of comprehensive solutions in the form of policy development and change.

 

Accordingly, the school's faculty includes a broad and unique group of experts in the study of social policy and social change entrepreneurship:

Prof. Idit Weiss Gal heads the Masters Program in Human Rights and Policy Advancement at the Bob Shapell School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University. Author of the book Policy Practice in Social Work (Hebrew; 2011) and co-editor of the book: Social Workers Affecting Social Policy: An International Perspective on Policy Practice (2013).

Prof. Idit Weiss Gal

Prof. Carmit Katz is the Chair of the Public Committee for Revising Governmental Policy on Childhood Sexual Assault in Israel. She is also the director of the International Forum for the Protection of Children from Abuse During the COVID-19 Pandemic. The forum is recognized by the World Health Organization and ISPCAN as a leading forum for child protection on an international scale. It offers evidence-based policies and guidelines for various organizations in over 20 countries.

Prof. Einat Peled is the Head of the Bob Shapell School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University. Her main fields of research are prostitution, payment for sexual services, and sex trafficking.

Dr. Lia Levin heads the Practical Clinic for Policy Change, a renown practical course offered as part of the Undergraduate Program at the Bob Schapell School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University. The course provides guidance, knowledge and practical tools in the field of social entrepreneurship and social activism. Dr. Levin also serves as a consultant to various social services and public institutions in the field of welfare policy development.

Dr. Guy Shilo is a researcher of prostitution, payment for sex and sex trafficking, as well as the social aspects that affect the mental and physical health of LGBT. Dr. Shilo combines research with the promotion of policies related to sexual minorities, in collaboration with the Israeli LGBT community organizations, Knesset (Israeli parliament) committees and welfare and treatment organizations.

Dr. Yael Itzhaki Braun is an expert on social work with communities, and a lecturer and researcher in the field of community social work, Dr. Itzhaki Braun has developed and teaches a unique course on social entrepreneurship in social work.

Dr. Ido Katri is a groundbreaking researcher in the field of law interpretation and perception of the law among welfare workers. Dr. Katri promotes policy change concerning equal access of marginalized communities to resources and opportunities.
